Oh To Be 12 Again

Yeah so, we went and saw TMNT over the weekend. Sandy was just as excited as I was.

It was pretty good.

The little boy next to me asked his dad who the Shredder was and the dad replied, “That’s who the Turtles fought when I was a kid.”

No Shedder in this one only a slight mention. Instead there are some stone warriors and crazy monsters. It was fun, the battle scenes were fast and furious, and the story line had a good message about being a family that loves each other unconditionally.

Also, the movie revolved around my two favorite Turtles, Raphael and Leonardo. Can’t beat that with a stick.

As a kid I had all the Turtles figues but I loved playing with my Raphael figure the most. One day I was out in the front yard playing and I decided to tie a string around Raph’s arm so that he could “repel” from our tree. As the afternoon went on I tried to see how high Raph could go in the tree top. I began to swing him around like a grappling hook. Faster and faster I whipped him around. Suddenly the rope went limp.

I never found my Raphael figure. It isn’t easy finding a green action figure outside in the green grass of a neighborhood. Oh how I looked for that figure. As I grew up, I always wondered if I would run him over with my lawnmower. If I did at least I would have found him again. No such luck though.

Anyway, it was nice being a 12 year old again for an hour and half on Saturday. The best part is I only had to be twelve for 90 minutes. Then it was back to being an adult.

I’m Back Baby

Stupid me forgot to renew my domain name. I was afraid that it had been lost forever but thankfully I was able to renew.

I’m not in the mood to post right now because I am still worn out from the last 2 weeks but I’ll get back to my regular schedule in the next few days.

Also, just a great big thank you to everyone who stops by the blog. You are appreciated!!!

Have a great day.

Woo-Hoo!

Even though I don’t work at a school anymore I still get a few of the school year perks.

Today is Spring Break!!!

Tomorrow we are heading out to Monarch Ski Resort in Colorado. It has been far too long since I have hit the slopes and I am more than ready. While helping to lead a ski trip isn’t exactly a break I’ll take what I can get.

For all of you working stiffs out there, take comfort in knowing that even though I’m on the slopes my muscles will be pretty stiff and sore, that while you are working at your desk I’m keeping up with teenagers, and as you’re stuck in traffic I’m driving a van across Texas.

Have a great week everyone.

Hard To Look Away

A Long Way Gone is proving to be one of the more difficult books I’ve ever read. It is hauntingly beautiful in the way the Beah writes his account but it is also vivid in its descriptions of the horrors witnessed and perpetrated in this West African nation.

My heart has been aching as Beah and his friends have been fleeing through the bush with little to no respite from the soldiers and their bullets.

Last night I read how Beah barely escaped death for what seemed like the third or fourth time in 43 short pages. I would finish a chapter and think, “Ok, I’ll just read one more.” In the end I had to stop reading because I was overcome with grief and anger.

“It was during that attack in the village of Kamator that my friends and I separated. It was the last time I saw Junior, my older brother.”

With that I rolled over but sleep did not come to me quickly.

Podcast on Tuesday

I gave my first intallment of “The Good News of Starbucks” sermon series this morning. I got a lot of great feedback and got the impression that the lesson ready connected with everyone. Unfortunately, I was unable to record it. D’oh!

I spent most of Thursday afternoon working on the sound board making sure that everything was ready to record but something happened this morning and it didn’t work. I’ll give the second installment in two weeks. Hopefully by then I can work out all the kinks.

On Tuesday I’ll post episode 2 of Kicking at the Podcast with the highlights of today’s sermon.

I was so bummed that it didn’t record but hopefully this will be next best thing. Be on the lookout for the podcast this Tuesday.
